Florida is Setting New Tourism Records… Again!

Florida Governor Rick Scott announced that tourism in Florida set a new record in the first half of 2016.

Florida welcomed more than 57,000,000 visitors, the highest amount of visitors of any six months in the state\’s history. And yes, this has had a direct impact on local tourism in Panama City Beach, setting some records of its own.

No doubt, this has been terrific for the local economies. What keeps people coming is obviously the family interest, but there are also sporting events, concert events, and other general activities such as golf vacations, boating tours and other related activities.

Travel related jobs in Florida are also at a record high with more than 1,200,000 Floridians employed in the tourism industry. Tourism jobs remain strong in the Panama City Beach area especially, accounting for about 30,000 jobs in the surrounding area (Bay County).

In the second quarter of 2016 the state also saw more visitors, with more than 27,000,000, a 3.1 percent increase from last year.
